To get spilled candle wax out of carpet, start by placing an ice pack on the spill to harden the wax and then chip or break off the big pieces. Once you’ve gotten as much of the big pieces out as possible, pull out an iron and some paper grocery bags or paper towels to get the wax that has soaked into the fibers. Take the bag or paper towel and place it on the spill and run over it with the iron, heating the wax and melting it onto the paper. Keep moving the bag or towel so that a fresh spot is always over the wax. Once you notice that no more wax is soaking in, you’ve soaked up all the wax.

When the inevitable red wine spill happens, white wine can be your best friend. White wine neutralizes red wine and makes it easier to lift the color off of your carpet or clothing. Simply pour white wine over the stained area and very gently blot the liquid up with a thick towel. Once you have the majority of the spill blotted up, take your favorite carpet shampoo or clothing stain remover and clean as you would if it were a bit of dirt.
