I cleaned my tub so much with tilex and anything else I can find. I cant get it white again. It needs to be refinished now. How can I get the brown spots off? This is an old house built in 1945.

If you've got stubborn mildew stains in the corner of tubs or showers, try soaking a cotton ball in bleach and pushing it down into the corners. Let it sit for 30 minutes or so and remove. Then rinse.

My dad, of all people, taught me this. To help prevent soap scum buildup in a porcelain tub, apply a light coat of boat or car wax to the sides of the tub (never on the bottom). It also keeps hard water stains off of glass shower doors.
