What solutions are recommended for cleaning oil rubbed bronze fixtures?

Hi Mary,

Rubbed bronze is a beautiful and popular choice for bathroom fixtures, door handles and more, but you want to be careful not to scratch or damage it if it's lacquered. Usually if it's lacquered you will want to use a soft cloth, like a soft microfiber or cotton cloth and only use water for tough spots. With microfiber water is a more effective cleaner all by itself.

The non-lacquered bronze is designed to age gracefully and therefore will be more likely to have natural blemishes. To keep it looking it's best, our teams at Merry Maids say the trick is to coat with beeswax and buff it to a shine with a soft cloth.

Thanks for your question!
