We just moved into our apt in we are noticing slight signs of mold in some of the shower area. I have cleaned it w/ bleach but see that it is returning. What can I do to get rid of it for good?

Hi Lauren,
We are so sorry to hear that you got settled into your apartment and found a reoccurring issue with mold. I understand that you've used bleach, which is what Merry Maids would recommend also, so I won't waste your time with the cleaning tips.
Instead, let's talk about understanding and if possible preventing the re-growth. Remove the mold and mildew once more completely to do a little test. Hang an old towel in the bathroom. Make sure after every shower that you use the towel to wipe the walls completely dry. Also ensure wet washcloths or anything else that holds moisture isn't left in the shower either.
Now, typically with surface mildew, if the area is kept dry it will remain clean. If you find the mold reappearing, then look to see if it's in an area where water stands or if it appears to grow out of the grout. If it returns through the grout or other cracks in the tile, it's very likely that it's not a surface problem, but a much deeper issue.
Mildew in grout sometimes has gotten under the grout and will continue to grow back until you replace the grout, which should then be sealed periodically to keep it water tight. And, in the worst of situations, mold and mildew can grow in the wall behind shower tiles and cause serious damage to the wall. If that is the case, contact your landlord to discuss options to have it removed.
Before following any of the cleaning information, methods, advice or suggestions above, always test a small area that is less visible first. Also, you should consult the manufacturer's care instructions and warnings before trying any of the above.
