I inherited a cedar chest from my grandmother when she downsized from her house. She stored items in it with a jar of mothballs… do you know how to get rid of the mothball smell?

When dealing with odors, it’s important to treat the source of the odor first. After removing the mothballs, the next step would be to air out the cedar chest by leaving it open outdoors on a nice sunny day. There are products available to consumers, which act as odor neutralizers, not air fresheners. Air freshener will simply mask the odor. Select an odor neutralizer like Fresh Wave, which has a sachet-filled product available online. Also, since the chest is cedar, you may prefer to purchase cedar chips, or all-natural cedar balls to bring the original smell back to the chest.
