How do you clean the inside of a bathroom ceiling fan that runs when you turn it on?

Hi Jan,

A lot of people never think about the bathroom exhaust fan, and they can definitely harbor dust. This should be done every time the bathroom gets a thorough deep clean, so dust doesn't build up. If it's been a while since your fan has been cleaned you definitely want to take the top-to-bottom cleaning approach and start with the fan before tackling your regular bathroom cleaning. You may want to lay a towel or newspaper on the floor below the fan before getting started. Don't forget your safety precautions. This isn't a job you want to tackle precariously perched on the vanity or toilet. Get the step ladder and you may want to grab glasses to keep dust out of your eyes.

Now that you're ready to clean the bathroom exhaust fan, your approach to cleaning is going to depend on what style fan you have, and how accessible the blades are. In most cases, a dust wand can fit to brush most of the loose dust free. Next dip a cloth in warm soapy water to wash the surface dust you can reach. You can also use a sponge or scrubber sponge. Dip half the sponge on the water, keeping one end dry to prevent the dirty water from running back down your arm.
